One Ton Tomato

Based in Athens, GA, latin jazz band One Ton Tomato has been a staple of the Athens music scene for the past 12 years. Todd Mueller, congas, Brian Smith, guitar, and Marc Gilley, saxophone, formed this group after a long mentorship under Tony McCutchen, who plays drum set in the group. Influenced by Pancho Sanchez, Cal Tjader, Mongo Santamaria, and Tito Puente, no other group around grooves quite like this one.

Todd, Brian, and Marc attended the University of Georgia where they were involved in Tony McCutchen’s salsa bands and other projects. Todd and Marc now teach music at Georgia Gwinnett College, Brian runs his own guitar studio and has an active performing career, and Tony McCutchen, after 30 years at UGA and 10 years as Director of the School of Music at Jacksonville State in AL, has now returned to Athens to enjoy a funky retirement.

In Athens, One Ton Tomato typically plays at Hendershots (new and old), and spent their formative gigs playing at the Mercury Lounge, now just a memory. They have performed at previous Twilight Festival events, at the Athens Human Rights Festival, and have appeared at college campuses across the south east. Always ready to bring the party, this is a great band for your event.
